Calvin L. Raup was born in Austin, Texas and is admitted in Texas (1975) and Arizona (1976). He is rated “AV Preeminent” 5.0 of 5 by Martindale Hubbell. Cal’s peers have recognized him as one of the Best Lawyers in America in four categories: Healthcare Law, Personal Injury & Death Litigation, Plaintiff’s Medical Malpractice Litigation and Defense Medical Malpractice Litigation. He annually appears in Phoenix Magazine’s “Top Lawyers” issue.
Cal has tried medical malpractice and wrongful death cases throughout the state of Arizona. He represents healthcare providers in licensing and disciplinary matters before their state licensing boards, including the most serious disciplinary matters before the Office of Administrative Hearings. He has substantial experience in the representation of Impaired Physicians.
Since 1999 Cal has held a faculty position at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix Campus, in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, where he participated in the development of the Intersessions Curriculum. He is a regular lecturer on medicolegal and risk management topics to physicians in training and physicians in active practice.
Cal’s healthcare expertise includes the Health Care Quality Improvement Act (HCQIA) and Arizona law governing credentialing and peer review of hospital medical staff members. He represents hospital medical staffs and individual physicians in credentialing and peer review matter, fair hearings and appeals.
